About Me

Jiayong Mei is a distinguished countertenor and educator. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) and a Master of Music (M.M.) in Vocal Performance from the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at The Catholic University of America. He is currently a full-time lecturer at the Institute of Music, UCSI University, Malaysia, where he teaches voice, vocal pedagogy, singing diction, and supervises undergraduate and graduate research. Jiayong was awarded Second Prize in the American Classical Singer International Vocal Competition in 2018. His musical journey has been enriched through the mentorship of distinguished artists including Rick Christman, Sharon Christman, Patrick Carfizzi, and Julia Mintzer. His repertoire includes the title roles of Cesare in Handel’s Giulio Cesare and Serse in Serse. He has performed at venues including Ward Recital Hall, Hartke Theater, St. John’s Episcopal Church, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, as well as the Bulgarian and Chinese Embassies in Washington, D.C.
